I have finally learned
that protecting my peace
sometimes means accepting
that someone I once loved
may never understand
why I needed distance.
For a long time,
I wanted them to understand.
I searched for the right words,
the right explanation,
the right moment
that would somehow make everything
make sense.
But healing doesn't begin
when someone else agrees with me.
It begins
when I stop needing them to.
My boundary
isn't a punishment.
It isn't revenge.
It isn't a wall
built from anger.
It is simply
the space I need
to hear my own heart again.
I know
they may tell a different story.
Perhaps, in their eyes,
I became the one
who walked away.
Maybe I did.
But they never carried
the weight I carried.
They never felt
the quiet breaking
that happened inside me
long before I ever left.
I cannot spend my life
trying to convince someone
that my wounds were real.
I don't need permission
to heal.
I don't need understanding
to choose peace.
So I choose compassion.
I pray they find
the peace they are searching for.
I pray they discover
their own path to healing.
And I quietly continue
walking mine.
Because protecting my peace
doesn't require
that anyone else
understand my reasons.
It only asks
that I honor them.
And every step I take
away from what broke me
is another step
toward becoming
who I was always meant to be.
