The Power of a Good Morning Playlist: Music to Boost Your AM Mood

Smile AM

An upbeat morning playlist can set the stage for an extraordinary day. It can uplift your spirits, give you hope for what lies ahead, and give you an optimistic perspective on life.

Music has an intense effect on us that is comparable to that of sex or food, making it the ideal way to show someone you care for that you care.

Discussing the Impact of Music on Our Emotions

Music has long been recognized as an effective mood enhancer. Nearly everyone agrees on its power to evoke feelings and have an enormous effect on health and well-being; yet have you ever considered why certain songs resonate more than others?

A recent UC Berkeley research study involved more than 2,500 participants in both the US and China listening to music clips that evoked various emotions, which was later found by brain scan analysis to produce similar feelings from both sources - music or language! They discovered that musical syntax works just like normal sentences on our minds.

Researchers identified 27 distinct emotions experienced when listening to music, including sadness, anxiety, triumph and dreaminess. Furthermore, they categorized these responses according to culture; people in both America and China found similar emotional responses although sometimes disagreed about whether a given track should have positive or negative associations.

Music with all of its notes playing harmoniously can stimulate our brain's pleasure centers, prompting release of dopamine. Dopamine surges can increase heart rates, signal legs to start moving, and activate mission control centers so we can begin performing physical tasks more easily.

Cat Stevens’s “Morning Has Broken”

Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965), originally published the song as an old hymn in 1931 before later appearing in Songs of Praise by Presbyterian church congregations. But its true popularity came with Stevens recording it for Teaser and the Firecat on his 1971 album Teaser and the Firecat; even then his record company hesitated about releasing it due to its religious nature; Rick Wakeman who would become part of Yes later provided piano work on this track.
