The Ones Who Went

Duncan Radio and Electronics

 When we were young,

the future was a blank page
often said, "Don't."

But there are those
who hear another voice
quiet, persistent, impossible to ignore.

It whispers,

"Go."

Buy the little store.
Shake hands on a dream
that makes everyone else nervous.

Maybe it works.
Maybe it doesn't.

Then try again.

A pizza shop.
A restaurant.
A used RV on a dusty lot.
One customer.
Then another.
One small chance
becoming a lifetime.

Years pass unnoticed.

Seasons come and go.
Hair turns silver.
The calendar fills with memories
instead of plans.

Then one evening,
the telephone rings.

A voice from half a century ago says,

"You changed my life."

Not because every gamble won,
but because one person's courage
gave another permission
to believe.

What greater wealth is there?

Not the buildings sold.
Not the dollars earned.
Not the comfortable retirement.

But knowing that somewhere,
someone sailed farther,
dreamed bigger,
lived bolder,

because you simply said,

"Let's do it."

In the twilight of life,
many count the roads
they were afraid to travel.

But the fortunate ones
look back with a smile and say,

"Some dreams failed.
Some dreams flew.
Either way...

I lived."
