The Liberation of Creativity - Finding Freedom Through Art and Expression

Throughout history, freedom to create has always been tied to economic prosperity. Societies that foster creativity best are those where individuals can freely imagine, explore, and experiment without restrictions or inhibitions.

Artistic freedom is an often overlooked human right that should not be discounted. Art can serve to connect legal frameworks to people's lived experiences.

Self-Expression

Self-expression is an invaluable way to express your thoughts, emotions, and personality through many mediums such as writing, painting, or music. Additionally, self-expression plays an integral part in personal growth by helping us explore and understand our emotions and beliefs as well as build meaningful connections with other people positively.

Many people believe they must be an accomplished writer or singer to write or sing; this type of thinking, however, limits creativity and restricts true freedom of expression.

Focusing on what brings you joy and satisfaction rather than striving to be the best can help you discover a creative outlet. Experimentation may reveal which medium works for you best; perhaps painting or drawing is best, while writing may suit others better. Engaging with different mediums is an invaluable way of exploring your passions and discovering hidden talents.

Creative expression is essential to both individual and collective identity development. Through poetry, art, and music creation, people express themselves creatively allowing for the discovery of unique personal traits and a strong sense of self.

Artistic self-expression can be an extremely effective form of communication that enables us to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, while it can also act as an invaluable means for healing and recovery. Teens in particular often struggle with anxiety, depression, and suicidal tendencies - providing teens with opportunities to express themselves creatively is often an effective way of alleviating such problems.

Creative outlets like art and music are essential for personal growth, but taking time out for self-expression in other areas of your life is just as vital. Try adding creative activities into your daily schedule - such as journaling, writing stories, or making handmade crafts - to take full advantage of taking some time to be creative and discover what defines you uniquely in life.

There is a nationwide epidemic of anxiety, depression, and suicide among adolescents. Educators are doing everything possible to raise awareness and implement counseling programs; Mariah Jones is an example of such an educator - teaching an art class to her high school students to encourage healthy self-expression and communication skills development. Mariah believes that expressing yourself through art helps reclaim one's own personality which often gets lost among academic and social obligations.

Self-Discipline

Self-discipline is one of the most essential life skills. It enables us to achieve success in all areas, be they work or school-related or personal and relational. By controlling emotions and keeping focused on what's truly important despite hardship or failure, self-discipline leads to increased productivity which in turn ensures a better quality of life overall.

If you want to boost your self-discipline, start by understanding what motivates you. Doing this will allow you to set clear goals that you are more likely to keep and create a plan to help achieve them. Furthermore, surround yourself with people who will support and hold you accountable - this could include friends, family, co-workers, or mentors.

Disciplining yourself can be a long journey, so don't be dismayed if the beginning stages seem difficult. Mastering self-discipline takes years of hard work; don't become disheartened if results don't appear immediately. Instead, set smaller, achievable goals and commit yourself to meeting them regardless of any temptation to procrastinate or give up; this will build up strength and confidence so you can eventually tackle larger goals with greater ease.

Practice mindfulness and meditation as another means of increasing self-discipline, as this will allow you to be more present and less overwhelmed by everyday stresses which can often lead to procrastination. Take some time from time to time to reflect upon your progress and goals - as your priorities may shift over time.

Many of the world's most successful people credit their success to self-discipline. While learning this discipline may not always be easy, its rewards far outweigh its difficulties. By taking steps toward learning it yourself, you too can find freedom in art and expression - be it painting, sculpture, music, dance or literature! - as others before have done before you.

Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is an integral component of creativity, helping us recognize how our emotions and thoughts influence our actions and lead us down different paths in life. Being aware of oneself allows for positive transformations to lead to a more fulfilling existence, but first it's essential to know exactly what self-awareness means before beginning practicing it.

One way to gain more self-awareness is to observe your thoughts in an objective and nonjudgmental manner. Another approach is practicing mindfulness, or being present in each moment by focusing on your breath, avoiding distractions, and sensing any bodily sensations that arise. You could also try journaling or meditation for further self-revelation.

Self-awareness can be challenging as it requires us to identify our feelings and behaviors; but once that's achieved, changing them becomes much simpler. To assist with this endeavor, try tracking your emotions and behaviors that affect your happiness as well as identifying values and goals to determine what matters most to you.

Self-awareness encompasses several components, including emotional intelligence, self-acceptance, and reflection. All these aspects come together as part of the creative process to help you realize your ideal lifestyle. In addition to monitoring your feelings, monitoring actions helps determine what works and doesn't. For instance, if procrastination is an issue for you then setting a reminder on your phone or writing down tasks you want completed can help create more awareness.

Artists use art to communicate ideas and express opinions on social issues. Their creativity can help spread messages of civil rights or denounce violence against women through art, yet freedom of expression comes with its own set of risks in countries with political instability or conflict histories.

Though many continue to uphold artistic freedom, many artists remain subject to government agencies or private individuals censoring their works, and artists' works are frequently targeted for censorship as a result of this. Therefore, you must support artists in your life while fighting for their rights.

Social Interaction

Artistic freedom refers to the ability of artists to freely create and distribute artistic expressions without interference from government or political bodies. It is one of the fundamental human rights, as it allows citizens access to cultural content while taking part in shaping community life. Furthermore, artistic freedom allows individuals to interact with higher values while exploring what's possible and unthinkable.

The right to artistic freedom has been recognized through various international agreements and treaties, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Charter. Furthermore, several countries have passed laws protecting this right. However, these laws may be difficult to uphold in societies that do not fully support artistic freedom - for instance, Gwenn Aram's "No Rights" highlighted the heartbreaking reality of humans who had their basic rights denied them. Aram depicted rational humans as infants bound by restrictive blankets to signify their inability to freely express themselves. The adhesive was applied directly onto their ears, mouths, and eyes to demonstrate how their thoughts were prevented from reaching an audience.

Aram used her artwork to raise awareness about human rights and how we can uphold them with creativity. Creativity should not just be used for self-expression - it can also serve as an effective vehicle for social change and activism, empowering people to stand up for what they believe in - which makes it all the more vital that we support local arts communities.

As cultural production is one of the key processes and spaces for democratic debate, artistic freedom serves an essential function in society - supporting and encouraging it promotes democracy, equality, and wellbeing.

Mural Arts Education program held a zine launch party on Friday, August 13 with young participants to mark the completion of their anthology zine, Finding Freedom: Cultivating Confidence and Courage! Youth engaged in creating this publication through various sessions where youth were given prompts regarding freedom, what made them courageous, and more; finally this zine served as the result of weeks worth of hard work and collaboration!
