Smile AM: Igniting Smiles for a Brighter Tomorrow

Smile AM

Colgate recognizes that every individual deserves to look forward to an optimistic future and, with this goal in mind, developed the Bright Smiles Bright Futures program.

In collaboration with Moose, Igniting Change has ignited support that empowers children towards a brighter tomorrow by investing in issues that are often hidden from everyday life – like bullying, sexual health, and domestic violence. From Alice Springs to Shepparton, Igniting Change has partnered with a diverse range of courageous groups and individuals to make a difference in Australia’s most vulnerable communities.

Smile AM Makes Changes for a Promising Future

Smiling may come naturally when we encounter something joyful or humorous, but smiling can also be chosen consciously - and those who make that choice often reap great benefits in return.

Smiling sends signals to your brain that all is well and safe, which reduces stress levels, releases feel-good neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, reduces blood pressure, and allows your body to fight off infections more effectively. Plus, smiling makes you more approachable and trustworthy to others, who may offer assistance during times of distress.

Scientists, such as Drs. Paul Ekman and Friesen who developed the "smile inventory", have extensively examined the chemistry behind smiles. Their studies identified four categories of smiles: reward smiles - those which convey approval, happiness, contentment and trustworthiness; affiliation smiles -- which signal positive intentions or social connections; dominance smiles -- those which show contempt or superiority; and dominance smiles which show contempt or superiority - of which genuineness of smile is ideal for success. The better it works for all involved parties!

As the saying goes, "When you smile, you light up the room." Smiling is one of the strongest indicators of our inner state - and contagious too - since when other people see you smile they tend to reciprocate by reflecting it back with their own smiles resulting in them feeling more relaxed and happier themselves.

Smiling is one of the few behaviors known to boost white blood cell production in your body and help fight off illness or infection, according to research on men and women who smile more compared with those who frown more. A comparison showed that those who smiled had healthier, stronger immune systems.

Associating yourself with people and activities that bring joy is vital. Make a list of everything that brings you pleasure and read it when having a tough day as a reminder there's always something good to smile about. Write the name of anyone who brings you happiness down in writing so they know just how important they are in your life.

Smile AM Kindles Hope: For Brighter Tomorrows

Smiling ignites hope for a brighter tomorrow by giving people a reason to believe there's more ahead. Smiling reminds them to work harder, smile brighter, and have faith that their efforts will bear fruit; every dark night holds the promise of a more promising tomorrow.

Every day we wake up to another beautiful day filled with hope, sunshine, and smiles. But sometimes there are days that can be a bit depressing and it is easy to feel down or like life has not been good to us lately. When these happen, it is important to remember that there are better times ahead and you can get through them with a little help from the power of positivity and laughter.

Bright Smiles: Illuminating a Brighter Future

Colgate believes everyone deserves the chance to live a life with bright smiles and good oral health, reflecting long-term physical, social, mental, and emotional well-being. Since 1991, we have championed this goal through our Bright Smiles, Bright Futures (BSB) program delivering free oral health education and fluoride varnish applications in non-dental settings like doctors' offices or Women, Infants, and Children's clinics around the globe. BSB programs ease barriers to care by offering prevention services like risk assessments or screenings while offering preventive services that deliver fluoride varnish applications in non-dental settings - thus alleviating barriers to care providers by removing barriers such as oral health risk assessments or screenings and offering preventive measures like fluoride varnish applications in non-dental settings where dentistry cannot.
